ORIGINAL FILM SCORES AND OTHER COMPOSITIONS

I have often stated that the most rewarding and life-altering engagements of my career have taken place in the Kingdom of Sweden.   In all, I have completed six successful tours throughout Scandinavia.

In a sense, Sweden has become my second country.  (I'd never really seek duel citizenship.  Why pay taxes twice?)  I have always felt very comfortable traveling about.  In particular, I am in love with Stockholm.

During my travels I have had the pleasure of meeting thousands of incredible people.  This page is dedicated to selected individuals whom I consider to be part of my family.  These are true heart-felt connections and I take great pleasure in introducing these fine people to you.

MY SISTER ANNELIE

I first met Annelie Henriksson in Karlskrona, a small village located in the southernmost region of Sweden.  At the time she was an amazing 19 year old with piercing eyes attended my show regularly accompanied by her father, Otto.

It was Easter time and the Henrikssons invited me to spend the day with the entire family.  I did not realize that soon I would be adopted into the family.

Annelie has two sisters, Carina and Lotta.   While in karlskrona, both Lotta and Annelie became my personal guides and body guards.  I remember joining them for a car ride one evening.  Otto and his wife, Anne Margaret  were attending a dinner dance and it was our mission to pick them up.  I didn't realize that the affair was being held on a military base.  When we approached the front gate, Annelie instructed me to slouch down in the back seat because foreigners were forbidden.   We made it on and off the base without incident.   I knew I could trust these people.  In fact, I would never hesitate to trust my life with them.

  I recall the night

  When we said goodbye

  When music filled the room

And tears were in my eyes

  I've seen the Karlskrona lights

  And the Scandinavian nights

  I will remember you

ANNE AND OTTO

In 2001, just before 9/11, Annelie and her parents (or I should say OUR parents) came to Chicago for a two week visit.  My wife Annie and I took great pride in showing them America through our eyes.  The Henrikssons were quite surprised to find the WINDY CITY a world class reality.

One of the greatest moments of my life took place when Annelie joined me in my studio to record a song entitled, KARLSKRONA LIGHTS.  We have sung together many times and I admire her artistry.
My Swedish father passed away in June of 2011.  He will be missed.

LOTTA BERGLIND

According to my original performing contract, I was never scheduled to appear in Malmo.  But, in 1997, there I was due to a change by the booking agency.  I am happy they did switch my destination because it allowed me the opportunity to catch up with my sister (a citizen of Malmo) as well as meet other interesting people.  The second Lotta walked into the TAHONGA PIANO BAR, we connected.  She is funny, scathingly smart and an amazing practitioner of the english language.  She has been a taxi driver, underwear salesperson, hotel receptionist, vocalist and now devoted wife and mother.  I like to call her FLO JO because of her very fast feet.  She calls me ol'fart.

I have never had the pleasure of meeting Lotta's husband.  She married after my last tour.  I did meet her son, ANDI, and it looks like the little guy popped up quite well.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that they all will be able to cross over the big pond and visit us.  But, money is tight in sweden...just like it is here.

She is warm, friendly and one who enjoys engaging people.  She is respected by many in the arabic community.  Ingrid has worked to help mid-easterners assimilate into Swedish society.  She is the owner/operator of a restaurant called TWO FIGS.  She is a true inspiration to me.  She likes to call me "SOUL BROTHER".
